Your Kettering College e-mail account is where you receive all official communication from the College, including messages from your professors. It is a web-based system powered by Google’s GMail and comes with a 25 GB e-mail capacity, handles larger file attachments (up to 50 MB), and includes your own personal online document and file storage (Google Drive) with a 5 GB capacity!
Getting There
To access your Kettering e-mail account:
-
Navigate to http://my.kc.edu (do NOT use "www" -- it will not work if you do!). It is also possible to access your account from http://mail.google.com, but if you do this you need to disregard the first instruction in the next paragraph and enter your FULL email address.
-
Enter the first portion ONLY (everything up to the “@”) of your e-mail address as the user ID. Your e-mail address is usually your first initial, middle initial and last name @my.kc.edu. For example, if your name is Jane Emily Smith, then your e-mail address will be jesmith@my.kc.edu. If this doesn’t work, log in to the Student Portaland click "Edit Profile" under your name to verify your email. Your user name for the student portal is the letters “KC” followed by the last 6 digits of your student id number. The password is the last 5 digits of the student id number followed by the last 4 digits of your social security number.
-
Your email password will initially be your FULL student id number (ex: 200000012345). Passwords are case-sensitive.
-
You will be required to change this password on your first login. When you change your password you should use a "strong" password that you know you can remember. A strong password is at least 8 characters long and contains a mix of uppercase/lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters such as #!$%^&*. Note: your password cannot be looked up so it is important to remember it!
-
Once you finish setting up your security preferences, you will be required to enter the scrambled letter puzzle a couple of times as a last security measure and you are in.
-
PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD!Forgetting a password can cause all sorts of problems (they cannot be looked up!), so we recommend that you NOT have your computer remember the password -- this only helps you to forget it.

Google Drive
Every Kettering College e-mail account comes with a "Google Drive," which enables you to store 5 gigabytes of your files on the Internet and access them from anywhere you have an Internet connection! To access your Google Drive, navigate to http://drive.google.com (again, don’t use “www”). You will need to configure the account the first time, and we recommend that you download and install the Google Drive application if you are using your own computer, which will make it much easier to access your drive’s contents. You can now create personal folders (only you can see them); you can create shared folders and then grant access to specific people; and you can create public folders which can be viewed by anyone who has the link to those folders. This is a great way to work smarter!
