Kettering College Graduates 42nd Class
On Saturday, May 1, Kettering College conferred degrees and certificates on 244 students at the school’s 42nd annual commencement ceremonies.
The event, held at the Dayton Convention Center, featured keynote speaker Pete Luongo, retired president and CEO of the Berry Co. and vice chair of the Kettering Health Network Board.
Among the evening’s highlights were the presentations of the George B. Nelson Award to Karen Brown (diagnostic medical sonography) and the Margaret L. Rodenburg Graduate Scholar Award to Lauren Wiley (physician assistant). Named after the founding president of Kettering Medical Center, the Nelson Award is given to the associate’s or bachelor’s graduate who most exemplifies the spirit and practice of the College’s mission. The Rodenburg Award recognizes a master’s-level graduate for achieving excellence in scholarship and professional growth, for providing compassionate Christian service, for demonstrating leadership and an interest in his or her profession that exceeds customary academic requirements, and for commitment to quality and lifelong learning.
Nominations for both awards are made by the academic department chairs.
During the conferral of degrees, the College president granted 155 Associate of Science degrees in the following areas: nursing (99), radiologic technology (24), diagnostic medical sonography (19), respiratory care (10) and nuclear medicine (3). Four certificates of completion in computed tomography and three in magnetic resonance imaging also were granted.
The College awarded 52 bachelor’s degrees, including 21 to graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Nine Bachelor of Science in Health Professions degrees were awarded in the following specialties: health care professional studies (4), diagnostic medical sonography (3) and advanced imaging (2); 21 Bachelor of Science in Human Biology degrees were presented as well.
Also notable was the commencement of 31 students from the school’s graduate program, the Master of Physician Assistant Studies.
